Angelos Stanitsas opened his pizzeria in Sarti, Chalkidiki 5 years ago. The food was never the problem — his handcrafted pizza earned a loyal local following. The problem was the Friday and Saturday night chaos. The small 40-seat restaurant would fill up, a line would form at the door, phone orders for pickup piled up, and Angelos's two waiters couldn't keep up. Orders got mixed up, the kitchen was backed up, and stressed staff made mistakes. Angelo tried a tablet ordering system once — it cost €4,000 and confused his older customers. He went back to paper menus and resigned himself to the chaos.

A friend told Angelos about Scan2Order. He was skeptical but set it up in an afternoon — no hardware, no installation, no training needed. Simple QR codes printed on table stickers. Customers scan, browse the menu with photos of every pizza, customize their order (extra mozzarella, no olives, add nduja), and submit. The order prints directly in the kitchen with all modifications clearly listed. No more waiters scribbling on pads, no more kitchen staff squinting at handwriting. Angelos also added a "Build Your Own" section where customers pick their base, sauce, and toppings — something that was too complicated to manage on a paper menu.

The "Build Your Own" pizza section was the surprise hit. Angelos had always offered custom pizzas, but when it was a verbal negotiation between customer and waiter — "can I have the Margherita but with gorgonzola instead of mozzarella and maybe some honey?" — it was slow and error-prone. On the digital menu, customers tap through their choices at their own pace. Custom pizzas now account for 28% of all orders and carry a higher margin than the standard menu.

Wrong orders dropped to virtually zero on weekends. Before Scan2Order, Friday nights averaged 3-4 wrong pizzas that had to be remade — wasting ingredients, time, and goodwill. Now every order arrives in the kitchen typed, itemized, and unambiguous. The kitchen runs smoother, pizzas come out faster, and table turnover on busy nights improved by 22%.

The average order value went up by €3.80 — partly from the custom pizzas, partly because the menu photos prompted people to add starters and desserts they'd normally skip. Angelos added a tiramisu photo and saw dessert orders triple in the first week. "People eat with their eyes first," he shrugs.

Sarti draws tourists from across the Balkans and Europe every summer, so Angelos activated Greek, English, Italian, Serbian, Bulgarian, German, and Romanian on the menu. His Serbian regulars who'd been coming every summer for years told him it was the first time they'd fully understood the descriptions of every pizza. He didn't even know they'd been guessing all along.

"I'm a pizza maker, not a tech guy. I didn't want apps or tablets or any of that. But this is just a QR code on a sticker. My 70-year-old regulars figured it out in 10 seconds. My kitchen gets clean orders, my waiters aren't running around like crazy, and I had my best year in 11 years. I should have done this five years ago."
